The tight calendar of Formula 1 also influences the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup schedule: After Austria and Great Britain, now the second double-header in a row is coming up for BWT Lechner Racing: This weekend the 4.381km long Hungaroring near Budapest will host the 5th round of the 2024 championship, with another classical race, Spa/Belgium taking place only one week later.
The Hungarian track has become one of the real classical F1 venues since it debuted in the 1986 calendar as the first F1 event ever in Eastern Europe and is regularly attracting a huge crowd of spectators, creating a great atmosphere.
Last year the Hungaroring saw a great weekend for BWT Lechner Racing, when Harry King won the race from pole position and Bastian Buus in P3 also finished on the podium. Qualifying on Saturday will be very important again, as the narrow track does not allow much overtaking, so starting from the front of the grid is an absolute must. The weather preview predicts temperatures of up to 34 degrees for the whole weekend, which will contribute to the huge challenge for all teams and drivers.
Robert Lechner, Team Principal of BWT Lechner Racing: “I have very good memories of Hungary in general. Five years ago we enjoyed Michael Ammermüller´s victory, when he raced with a special livery for the 70th birthday of our late father Walter, which we celebrated at the track. No better way to do so for a racing family like the Lechners! And then there was Harry King´s win last year... Hungary is a neighbour to our home country Austria, so that makes it also a bit special. It is usually very hot there – and we can expect hot and tight racing against our strong competition as well. We will do everything to add further to our list of good memories here.”
Harry King: “The Hungaroring is a circuit that I am excited to be united with, after last year´s performance and the great success we had there. I am going back with high expectations!”
Robert de Haan: “I am looking forward to the Budapest weekend, we had a very good test there earlier in the season. It will be very hot, so it´s important to stay well hydrated all the time. For sure we will aim for another podium like in Silverstone.”
Theo Oeverhaus: “Happy to be back in Hungary, I have some good memories from there and can´t wait to create some more.”
