In another double header, Round 6 of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will take place in Hungary this weekend: After quite a long trip from Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, BWT Lechner Racing is ready for the challenges of the 4.381km long Hungaroring near Budapest. With currently P2 in both the team and the drivers' championship with Robert de Haan, the aim is to make up some ground again and to improve the chances further in both classifications for the rest of the season.
The Hungarian track has become one of the real classical F1 venues since it debuted in the 1986 calender as the first F1 event ever in Eastern Europe and is regularly attracting a huge crowd of spectators, creating a great atmosphere.
BWT Lechner Racing has very good memories of the venue: both in 2023 and 2024 Harry King crowned himself “King of the Hungaroring”, crossing the finish line in first place twice in his pink car.
Qualifying on Saturday will be very important again, as the narrow track does not allow much overtaking, so starting from the front of the grid is an absolute must. Especially as the weather forecast this time is a bit unusual for Hungary: Instead of the normal scorching heat rain is expected for the race on Sunday.
Robert Lechner, Team Principal of BWT Lechner Racing: “We always see Hungary as kind of our second home race, as it is a close neighbour to our home country Austria. In our first home race this year in Spielberg we did not perform too bad with a 1-2 victory, so let's hope we can continue in a similar way. We will start into the weekend fully focused. Especially qualifying on Saturday will be extremely important, the most important qualifying of the season after Monaco, where we have to deliver, as it is the basis for Sunday's race.”
Robert de Haan: “I am really looking forward to Budapest, BWT Lechner Racing has been very strong here in the past and I think we can be very strong here again this weekend. We had a very good test there earlier in season, so we are ready again.”
Marvin Klein: “I am really happy to go back to Hungary. I have some good memories from there and can't wait to create some more. The track is very special, especially sector 2 where the rhythm is just incredible between Turn 4 and Turn 11. After Spa last weekend I’m really determined to fight for the win here!”
