Fantastic qualifying for BWT Lechner Racing: Monaco winner Harry King claimed pole position for for the 4th round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Hungaroring near Budapest. Under a blue, sunny sky at the 4.381 km long track, championship leader Bastian Buus in P3 and rookie Harri Jones in P5 completed the very strong result for the Austrian team.
King set his time of 1:45.933 in the very last minute of the session. Positions in the tight qualy changed frequently, but in the end the Brit came out on top: “Of course I am very happy about my first Supercup pole this year. I was already comfortable in the car from the very beginning with the first set, then with the second set I could still stretch my leg out a little bit longer. Our test here paid off very well – tanks to the whole team for the great effort they always put into everything.”
Championship leader Bastian Buus in P3 is optimistic to get even further in front in Sunday´s race: “Qualy was okay, but I didn´t get a perfect lap together. But it is still a good result looking at the championship and with the speed we have I think there might be a bit more to come in the race”, the Danish Porsche Junior stated. “It should be possible to fight for victory tomorrow. First it will be important to have a safe start and then we have to see from there.”
Australian rookie Harri Jones was more than pleased with his grid position: “Qualifying was fantastic. I felt great behind the wheel and the car was a rocket. P5 is my best result so far and I’m looking forward to building on this tomorrow in the race.”
BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal and CEO Robert Lechner was very happy with the result. “Especially here at the Hungaroring, where overtaking is so difficult due to the track characteristics, it is ever so important to start from the front rows of the grid – and the whole team did a great job. Congratulations to Harry for his pole, which puts him in a great position for the race. But knowing Bastian´s way of racing you can expect something special from him tomorrow from P3. I also want to point out the great performance of our rookie Harri Jones, very impressive with his best Supercup qualifying result ever. So Saturday is in the books, now full focus on the race tomorrow!”
