Harry King Hungaroring winner – third place for Bastian Buus

What a great day for BWT Lechner Racing: Harry King scored his second victory in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2023 season, winning the fourth round of the series at the Hungaroring near Budapest. His teammate and championship leader Bastian Buus also made it to the podium in P3, while rookie Harri Jones with his best Supercup result so far in P6 rounded up an impressive team result for the Austrian squad.

BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal and CEO Robert Lechner was full of praise for his whole team: “It was a fantastic result for us – I am really proud of everybody involved. Big congrats to Harry for his second win after Monaco. He did an impressive job, having everything under control, setting one fastest lap after the other. Bastian also managed to do everything right in terms of points and podium, not taking too much risk even if he was faster than his competitor ahead. And Harri also made it to the second spot of the podium for the rookie championship again. So the atmosphere in the team is great – I hope we can take this momentum over to Spa in one week´s time.”

King made perfect use of his pole position, taking the lead immediately at the start and extending it step by step, only to be hampered a bit by two Safety Cars on lap 3 and 13. But he was also a master of the restarts, always dominating the situation. “Pole position, fastest lap, being able to control the race over the whole distance, even with the two Safety Cars – I think this came close to a perfect weekend”, the 22-year old Brit was ever so happy. “I am really pleased for the whole team for the job we did, you could see how good all the three pink cars were this weekend. That gave me great confidence to pull out a big gap from the very beginning.”

Bastian Buus kept his third place after a bit of hard fighting through the first corners and then tried everything to gain at least one more position, but in the end had to calculate risk versus reward on a track where overtaking is notoriously difficult. The Danish Porsche Junior is now leading the championship with 64 points, seven ahead of teammate King.

Harri Jones managed to get through the usual start confusion unharmed and finally finished in sixth place overall, second in the rookie classification, just missing out victory there for one second. “Overall it was a great weekend here in Hungary”, the Australian was rather content. “ I scored my best finish so far with P6 and I’m happy with the result. But a part of me is disappointed that I couldn’t get the rookie win. Still, in the big picture it’s great for our championship and now full focus is on Spa next weekend.”

BWT Lechner Racing Team Manager Michael Schöch is already looking ahead: “After the race is before the race. The next one is already waiting for us in Belgium next weekend – so it is important to master the logistics of taking everything down here and set it up again there in the same way as mastering the event itself. But with another victory in the bag and leading both the drivers and team championship at halftime things maybe feel a little bit easier.”
