Important points for BWT Lechner Racing in cleverly managed race

Contrary to the weather forecast, there was no rain during the sixth race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2025 at the Hungaroring. Nevertheless BWT Lechner Racing managed to get the maximum possible out of it after a difficult qualifying on Saturday at the narrow track where overtaking is normally nearly impossible. Robert de Haan finally finished in P5 after a very clever race, ahead of his main competitor in the championship. Marvin Klein in P7 also added very important points for the Austrian squad.

De Haan and Klein had to start from P7 and P11 respectively after a very tight qualifying even by missing out on pole position only by 0.138 and 0.227 seconds. But both managed to get through a rather chaotic first lap with many incidents, which caused a five lap safety-car period without any damage, gaining already a few positions.

After the re-start both tried to attack the cars in front of them a few times, but while the necessary speed was clearly visible, overtaking would not have been possible without taking too great risks due to the track characteristics. So the goal had to be to secure the positions, with a penalty for a competitor due to track limits on the last lap meaning P5 and P7 in the end.

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup now goes into a four weeks summer break together with Formula 1 before the final double header starting at Zandvoort on the last weekend of August, with the season final coming up at Monza one week later.

Robert Lechner, BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal: “We achieved the maximum result today. Robert with a very clever race made up two points against his closest competitor in the drivers' championship. But with my experience I can state that with a better qualifying we could have fought for victory today, as the speed and performance were definitely there. Now we can relax a little bit at least in parts of the summer break to come back fully focused and perfectly prepared for the final two races of the season.”

Robert de Haan: “In the end it was still a good weekend with scoring some valuable points. We are now focusing on our own job, moving to Zandvoort at the end of August. This is my home race, there we will be ready again to fight for every point.

Marvin Klein: “It was a tough race where we needed to take opportunities, maybe not the best one from my side with some contacts. But we managed to come back to P7 from P11 on the grid, so let’s take the points and focus now on Zandvoort!

Michael Schöch, BWT Lechner Racing Team Manager: “For sure that was a lot of damage limitation today – I am very proud of the whole team. Before we can rest a bit and enjoy the summer break, we will go testing again in the coming week to be well prepared for the final two decisive races of the season.”
