Formula 1 is coming to Europe – and of course the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is immediately joining in: The start of the 2022 season is a very special milestone for the series, as the „Go“ for its 30th season takes place where the Supercup history began: At the 25th of April 1993 the first Porsche Supercup race was run at the Autodromo Dino and Enzo Ferrari at Imola/Italy. During this long-lasting history, the Austrian team Lechner Racing won 8 drivers and 11 team titles, becoming the most successful team so far in this championship.
In the fifth year of the great partnership with BWT, the team is going to enter three cars into the 2022 championship, focusing again on a good mixture of experience, speed, talent and future. Leading the team is well-experienced Dylan Pereira in car number 5. The 24-yearold from Luxembourg, who already won five Supercup races for the team and was runner-up in the 2020 championship, is excited about the start into the new season: “We are all very well prepared, I had some promising test days to get adapted to the car again and I also worked hard over the winter on my physical preparation, lost about five kilos of weight to be even fitter than I ever was.”
Car number 6 is driven by Harry King. The 21-year-old from England, winner of the British Porsche Carrera Cup in 2020, is looking forward to his first full season in the Porsche Supercup: “I take a lot of pride in being chosen for this opportunity by BWT Lechner Racing. To be able to be part of a team of this calibre is very motivating to say the least and I will do everything to live up to the expectations Robert and Walter have in me.” The youngest of the three drivers is 18-year-old Bastian Buus from Denmark in car number 7, who won the GT4 Pro-Am European Championship in 2020. Regarded by many as a huge talent in GT Racing, he has set clear goals for his debut season in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup: “Being able to work with a team like BWT Lechner Racing means I will get the opportunity to learn a lot from some hugely fast drivers and a fantastically skilled crew. And I’m going to need that because my goal is to secure the Porsche Mobil 1 Rookie Championship.”
While Robert Lechner will focus mainly on the sporting side of the team, he is very happy to be able to “rely on the great expertise of my brother Walter who will take on a lot of management duties on the technical side this year, together with race engineer Michael Rühs. Additionally there is of course again our experienced Team Manager Michael Schöch – which means that we have highly capable people in all key positions as well as in the whole team, focusing on the maximum success of our three cars. We are all very much looking forward to the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Season 2022 and glad that it finally gets under way!”
