BWT Lechner Racing looking forward to first Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race at Le Castellet
Even in its 30th season the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is still going to new places: For the first time the series will race at the Circuit Paul Ricard, a 5.842 km long track in the south of France. BWT Lechner Racing after a great home weekend in Austria is very much looking forward to the new challenge, the fifth race of the Supercup season 2022.
The Austrian squad is starting into the second half of the year leading the team championship as well as the overall classification and the rookie championship. Dylan Pereira, winner of the last race in Austria, is lying 2 points ahead of Laurin Heinrich and 13 ahead of title defender Larry ten Voorde. He is hoping to be able to consolidate his advantage, while his teammate Harry King has also not given up the fight for the championship yet.
Rookie class leader Bastian Buus reached his first overall podium in Spielberg, the “man of the race”, coming up from P9 to P3, and is setting his aims even higher now: “I know that I belong to the best drivers on the grid, I just have to focus even more on my qualifying. If I can start further up, I think I can be in contention for podiums and even victories every time.” The 19-year-old from Denmark has good memories of Paul Ricard, “as I won the European GT4 championship there in my debut year. Also our testing there went well and I am confident that we as a team can show a strong performance once again.” For him one of the goals of the second half of the season will be to find the right balance between “making sure not to risk too much considering my rather big lead in the rookie championship while at the same time being aggressive enough to attack in the overall category where a place within the Top 3 is still in reach.”
BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal an CEO Robert Lechner hopes for the team to be able to “continue at the same high where we finished in Austria. We come to Paul Ricard very well prepared, had a good test there, and the success at our home race gave us all an additional push. We know the track well from our races here in the French Porsche Carrera Cup in 2020 and 2021, but I rate especially the French drivers and teams very high here at their home race. Of course our aim is to defend all our championship leads and leave France as we came here – on top in all the categories before the short summer break. I am very proud of the whole team and the drivers, of their performance, the great atmosphere in the team – which is reflected in the recent results.”
