First win for Bastian Buus – 1-2 victory for BWT Lechner Racing

Bastian Buus crowned a fantastic weekend for himself and BWT Lechner Racing with his first win in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The 19-year old youngster from Denmark controlled the race at the Circuit Paul Ricard in the south of France under blue skies and in the 32-degrees heat from Pole Position and crossed the finish line 0.5 seconds ahead of his BWT Lechner teammate Harry King.

“It is a fantastic feeling to be on the top of the podium in the overall classification for the first time”, Buus, who also scored his fifth win in the rookie championship in the fifth race, was beaming all over is face. “I want to express a big 'Thank you' to my team, BWT Lechner Racing, who gave me this chance an made it all possible for me, to everybody who believed in me, and also to my family, who always supported me and is here now to celebrate with me. It´s one of the best days of my life – and it is great to share it with all the people who made it happen. Now I have to continue to work hard to stay where I currently am.”

Harry King also drove a very strong race from the front row of the grid, always closely following  Buus and reaching his best Supercup result so far with P2 – after the two podium finishes in P3 in Imola and Silverstone. “It was a great weekend for BWT Lechner Racing and I am glad I was able to contribute to the strong team result, extending our lead in the team championship”, said the Brit. “Also it´s nice to be really in the fight for the title in the drivers´ championship now. With only 12 points behind the leader and three races to go a lot can still happen.”

Championship leader and double winner in 2022, Dylan Pereira, starting from P3 on the grid,  unfortunately during the hectic action at the start suffered suspension damage to his car due to contact, and after receiving another hit without his own fault later on had to play it safe and focus on defending his position and scoring valuable points – which he did in a great way regarding the state of his car. P5 on track became P4 later when Laurin Heirich received a 3-second-penalty for overtaking outside of the track limits. That means that the 25-year old from Luxembourg extended his lead in the overall classification to 4 points ahead of Heinrich, title defender Larry ten Voorde is third, 10 points behind.

BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal Robert Lechner was ever so happy: “Our two youngsters really rocked the show today, they were in a league of their own here. I am so proud of them and especially glad that Bastian, who as a rookie already showed an impressive performance from the beginning of the season, got his first victory in a superb manner. Harry drove a fantastic race as well, setting also fastest lap. We have three drivers in the team who can fight for wins. That was the aim from the start of 2022, we always believed in this – and that´s what we have now.  I am very proud of the whole team, engineers, mechanics, truck drivers, everybody who is contributing from home, administration, back office  – they all are doing a great job. It was our first double win of the season, but hopefully not the last one. If it´s up to me, it can continue like this for the rest of the year...”
