Season start for BWT Lechner Racing and Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Monaco highlight

It is always a huge highlight of the season for the motor racing world, and this time it is even the start of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season  - as it already was once in 2021: The race at the Monaco Formula 1 weekend is very special for everybody and of course BWT Lechner Racing is no exception. The famous and extremely challenging street circuit of Monte Carlo requires perfect focus of the drivers for every second over each lap at the tight 3.337 km track between walls and armcos, the slightest mistake proving most likely to be very costly.

For BWT Lechner Racing, the start of the 2023 season also marks a very special milestone, as the team celebrates its 20thanniversary in the Porsche Supercup, starting now in its 21st season there.During this time Lechner Racing won 12 team, 9 drivers and one rookie title, 22 in total, becoming the most successful team so far in this championship.

In 2023, the sixth year of the great partnership with BWT, the Austrian squad again is going to enter three cars in the championship: Car Nr. 1 will be driven by last year´s rookie champion Bastian Buus. The 19-year-old from Denmark was also chosen to be a Porsche Junior in 2023, so expectations are quite high for the season. “Of course my hope is to make use of everything I learned last year and to be able to fight for another title for BWT Lechner Racing this year.”

Car Nr. 2 is in the hands of a Supercup Rookie: Harri Jones from Australia is the reigning Australian Porsche Carrera Cup Champion and very much looking forward to his Supercup debut: “I am very grateful to Robert and Walter Lechner for giving me the chance to race for such a fantastic team. I will try to learn as much as possible in my first year in Europe – and maybe I can aim for the rookie title, which would be great,” says the 23-year-old.

Car Nr. 3 is driven by Harry King. The 22-year-old from England, winner of the British Porsche Carrera Cup in 2020 and of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux in  2022, is going into his second full season in the Porsche Supercup with BWT Lechner Racing: “I gained a lot of experience last year, the team helped me a lot – and I hope I can give back something this year. The aim has to be to fight for the title now...”

BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal & CEO Robert Lechner is looking forward to the tasks ahead: “After the very successful  year 2022, where we won the driver title with Dylan Pereira, the rookie title with Bastian Buus and the team title with Harry King also contributing a lot, 2023 will be a new challenge for all of us. We have a great diver line-up and are very well prepared, with the team itself remaining very stable. But you can never rely on the achievements of the past, always have to move forward and further improve. The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is not only the fastest, but also the most competitive one-make championship, so we have to work hard and stay focused. Monaco is especially demanding, you can´t afford the slightest error. So everybody has to be on top of his game every second of the weekend.  But together with all our partners and team members, we are ready!”
