BWT Lechner Racing aiming for a great comeback at season highlight in Monaco
If there is one race weekend in the whole calendar of both Formula 1 and the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup that everybody recognizes as an absolute highlight of the season, it´s the weekend of the Monaco Grand Prix. The race at the famous and extremely challenging street circuit of Monte Carlo not only has a long tradition going back to the first GP in 1929, it is also a perfect mixture of glamour for the public and a huge challenge for all competitors: Perfect focus and precision of the drivers for every second over each lap at the tight 3.337 km track between walls and armcos is required, the slightest mistake proving most likely to be very costly.
BWT Lechner Racing has a great history in Monaco with a total of six victories by René Rast (2010, 2011), Kuba Giermaziak (2014), Michael Ammermüller (2017, 2019) and Harry King (2023). This year the team is coming to Monaco to make up for the very unfortunate start into the season at Imola. Both Robert de Haan and Marvin Klein know the circuit well and are really confident that a good result will be possible, as they had a good feeling for the cars and a lot of speed last weekend. Of course qualifying on Friday will be already very important, as overtaking is extremely difficult due to the characteristics of the track.
Robert Lechner, BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal: “The Monaco F1 weekend always has a very unique flair and so is an early highlight in the season. Being part of the whole atmosphere with our Porsche Supercup team feels great every year. It's also very emotional to remember all our victories here – they were all outstanding. This time we were facing a special challenge as both our cars were damaged at Imola due to circumstances out of our hands, but the whole team did a great job in rebuilding everything extremely fast, so we could be on our way to the principality absolutely in time. A big thank you to everybody – you all proved again how strong we are as a team, especially in a difficult situation. Of course a podium finish or even a win would be a great reward for the hard work!”
Robert de Haan: “I am really looking forward to Monaco! The team did a mega job to built me a new car again and I am sure we are absolutely ready for this special weekend. Hopefully with a better result this time, but last year we already had great speed. So let's completely focus on Monaco now – always look into the future, not into the past.”
Marvin Klein: “It is always exciting to have three races at three weekends in a row. Especially with being part of the Monaco Grand Prix now, every lap is a dream and I just want to take lap after lap and enjoy! It also feels like my home race of the year, as I'm living just one and a half hours from Monaco.”
