Very strong team result for BWT Lechner Racing in qualifying for the start of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season 2023: Harry King will start the support race to the Monaco F1 Grand Prix on Sunday, an absolute highlight of the series, from P2 besides former Supercup champion Larry ten Voorde, with his BWT Lechner Racing teammate Bastian Buus in P3. It was a typical slightly chaotic session on the famous and ever so challenging 3.337 km track through the city of Monte Carlo, with two red and many yellow flags.
King managed to position himself within the Top Three during the whole qualifying and was happy with the result, “as P2 is a very good position to go at least for a podium on Sunday.” Buus, the Danish Porsche Junior, was stuck in traffic for quite some time and had to fight until the very last minute to put in a great lap, but after the first red flag, the BWT Lechner Racing team worked perfectly in the pitlane, getting him out first. “So I was able to improve my time significantly just before the second red flag came out.”
Rookie Harri Jones from Australia, driving for the first time in the legendary streets of Monaco, was not always in the luckiest position on track with all the chaos going on. So after keeping himself in the Top Ten for quite some time he finally rounded up the good team result in P12, which is promising at his debut in the principality.
BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal and CEO Robert Lechner was very happy with the result: “We all know how difficult it is to make it to the front in a Monaco qualifying. I want to thank the whole team, which did a great job, especially in the dramatic final minutes we got it all right – and P2 and P3 is a very nice reward. We can be very content with this start into the season. Congratulations to Larry ten Voorde and GP Elite to a well-deserved pole position – Larry has so much experience here, already won this race twice. But we were very close and can really look forward to the race on Sunday - we definitely will be well-prepared and focused.”
