Very valuable points for all 3 BWT Lechner Racing cars in Monaco

Strong team result for BWT Lechner Racing at the highlight of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season 2022, the support race to the Monaco F1 Grand Prix on Sunday. All three cars made it into the Top Ten, securing very valuable points for the team in all three championships. Imola winner Dylan Pereira finished fourth at the narrow and ever so challenging track through the city of Monte Carlo, with Harry King just behind him in P5 and Bastian Buus in P9, winning the rookie category again in a very convincing way.

“It was one of this typical Monaco races, where nothing much happens anymore, where everything is already decided in qualifying”, said Pereira. “At the front, where the speed differences are very small, it is impossible to overtake. And there is no point in taking huge risks, looking at the championship the most important thing is to score the maximum points possible every time. That´s what I did – just focusing in bringing the car home safely from where I was.” He now lies in second place in the title race, just six points behind Monaco winner and reigning champion Larry ten Voorde.

Harry King was sure that “had I been able to start from the front row, without the penalty, I would have been able to finish at the podium. We had the speed all weekend, but Monaco is Monaco – so you just have to live with the fact that there are so many things that can happen. The aim was to bring home as many points as possible for BWT Lechner Racing – and that we did.”

Danish rookie Bastian Buus, driving for the first time in the legendary streets of Monaco, finished the race in P9, also his grid position: “I am happy with the weekend, I really enjoyed racing here for the first time, I love the whole atmosphere, the track. I think I have a new favourite circuit now, even if overtaking is ever so difficult. Winning the rookie category again is great, the team did a great job with all the preparation, so thank you to them as well.”

“Leaving Monaco with a lot of points and with no further damage to the cars after the race we can call a success”, said BWT Lechner Racing Team Manager Michael Schöch. “So we can be content with what we achieved. Last year we all saw how harsh this weekend can be – considering this I am glad this time we made it through with a lot less damage and bad luck. Big thanks to the whole team, who all did a very good and professional job throughout all the sessions. The next task now is to prepare the cars very carefully for the next event at Silverstone at the beginning of July.”

BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal and CEO Robert Lechner was happy with the outcome: “We finished with all three cars in the Top Ten, scored all the points possible in the given situation after qualifying, which is so important here. The drivers did exactly what we had asked for: Staying out of trouble, bringing the cars home safely. Even if P4 and P5 are probably the most unlucky positions here, so close to the podium, which is always something very special in Monaco, they still give us very important points especially for the team championship which we are leading, as Bastian is in front in the rookie class. He had a very good weekend – we all know how difficult Monte Carlo is for a rookie.”
