Fantastic start for BWT Lechner Racing: Harry King wins at Monaco - Bastian Buus third
The start into the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season 2023 couldn´t have been better for BWT Lechner Racing: Harry King won the support race to the Monaco F1 Grand Prix on Sunday, an absolute highlight of the series, ahead of former Supercup champion Larry ten Voorde, with his BWT Lechner Racing teammate Bastian Buus also finishing on the podium in P3. Quite a lot of incidents and yellow flags as well as a Safety-Car for the last four laps marked the race on the famous and ever so challenging 3.337 km track through the city of Monte Carlo.
King won the start from P2 against pole-sitter ten Voorde, “which was of course essential, as we all know how difficult overtaking is here in Monaco. He put a lot of pressure on me all the time, I was able to withstand it – and of course the Safety Car ended the real race a little bit earlier”, the Brit was ever so happy. “The car was really good, thanks to the whole team for the great work. This was the win I really wanted most!”
Buus, the Danish Porsche Junior, defended his third position on the grid at the start and kept the position until the chequered flag came out: “We all know that you normally can´t do any miracles in the race at Monaco, so I really aimed for securing my place on the podium, not taking too many risks. It´s a very good start into the season, a valuable basis for the coming races.”
Rookie Harri Jones from Australia had a good debut race, finally finishing in P9 after managing one of the few overtakings in the whole race, getting by well-experienced Dutchman Jaap van Lagen. Driving for the first time in the legendary streets of Monaco, he was able to stay out of all trouble and bringing the position home, rounding up the great team result for BWT Lechner Racing and making it to the rookie podium in P3 of this class, “which was a great feeling.”
BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal and CEO Robert Lechner nearly over the moon about the result: “I didn´t dare to hope for a win before the start of the race, but Harry had a great getaway and afterwards did everything right in keeping ten Voorde behind him – he never put one wheel wrong. With Bastian in P3 and the other Harri on the rookie podium and within the Top Ten overall, it was a fantastic first race weekend of the season for us. Thank you to everybody in the team – all your hard work and preparation paid off. Now we have to continue like this, staying focused – already preparing for our home race at Spielberg/Austria in one month´s time.”
