Great qualifying for BWT Lechner Racing at Monza – Pole for Harry King on track
It was a great qualifying for BWT Lechner Racing for the eighth and final round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2022 at the Royal Park at Monza: Harry King set the fastest lap with a time of 1:48,753, claiming pole position on track, with Bastian Buus and Dylan Pereira confirming the great form of the team with P3 and P4.
But unfortunately the British Porsche Carrera Cup Champion still has to serve a three places grid penalty from his collision with Jaap van Laagen in Zandvoort, which will drop him to P 4 on the grid. “But nobody can take away this lap from me, which was really good. I hope I can use the speed we have to still get a bit further ahead in the race.”
The penalty for King means that Bastian Buus will start from the front row of the grid besides Marvin Klein, „which of course is a very good position to aim for another win tomorrow”, the Danish youngster and rookie champion is quite optimistic.
Championship leader Dylan Pereira had to abort his first fast lap on the second run, „and then for the second one the tyres were no longer perfect as I was slightly in the gravel before. I had one purple sector 1, one purple sector 3 – so all together a bit more was possible. But starting from P3, ahead of my main title rivals Larry ten Voorde in P5 and Laurin Heinrich in P7 is quite a good position – considering that P9 for me would be enough in any case. I also have to think a bit strategically in the race, stay out of any trouble to finish safely – even if it would be great of course to win the championship with a win or at least a podium finish.”
BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal and CEO Robert Lechner was quite happy with the result: “As usual in Monza it was a quite hectic and close qualifying, with only one tenth between the Top 3. We confirmed our 1-2-3 from free practice with today´s performance of P1, P3 and P4 on track. Now we are completely focusing on the race – hopefully we will be able to celebrate the title for Dylan tomorrow.”
