After a one month break after Monaco, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is returning to action at the classical Silverstone circuit, the “home of British motor racing”. BWT Lechner Racing goes very well prepared into the challenge of the 5.891 km long track with its famous corners like Copse, Maggots, Becketts, Stowe, Abbey - names very familiar to every racing fan worldwide.
It will be the first time for local hero Harry King to drive in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in front of his home crowd: “Of course I am really looking forward to this opportunity, and being able to do it together with BWT Lechner Racing is just the special icing on the cake.“ Nevertheless he doesn´t think he will have a special home advantage there: “Contrary to what many people believe I never drove the Grand Prix circuit before our tests here this year”, says the British Porsche Carrera Cup champion from 2020, as all his races in the British Cup took place on the shorter version of the Silverstone track.
Asked for his favourite corner here, the 21-year old just loves the famous Maggots-Becketts combination: “You enter with more than 200 kph, cannot make the slightest mistake, otherwise you will lose a lot of speed and time on the following Hangar straight. And towards the end of the race, everybody starts feeling the g-forces. There it shows whether you are really fit or not...”s A podium finish or even a win here would be one of the greatest achievements of his racing career so far: “Our tests were very good, so I am really optimistic. Actually the Saturday with the qualifying will probably be the most important day of the weekend, as it is so difficult to overtake with these cars.”
King´s BWT Lechner Racing teammates Dylan Pereira, currently second in the overall standings, and Bastian Buus, leader of the rookie championship, will also aim for remaining strongly in the title race while securing the lead of BWT Lechner Racing in the team championship.
“We used the break for an even better preparation for the upcoming tasks”, Robert Lechner, Team Principal and CEO of Lechner Racing, states. “We did some very good testing, so I am confident we will be able to play an important role in the fight for top positions again. I am glad the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is returning to Silverstone again, after a one-year break. Racing in Great Britain is always very special for me, I lived here for three years during my junior formula and GT career, had many great experiences and love the country as well as the special atmosphere at British race tracks.”
