Local hero Harry King and championship leader Bastian Buus claimed the second row on the grid for BWT Lechner Racing for the third race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2023. In a very close qualifying at the classical Silverstone track, the "home of British Motor Racing“, King missed out on pole position only for about two tenth of a second: “I had a very good car, but I did not get the absolute perfect lap together, didn´t put my best sector times together. But P3 is not too bad, we usually have a very good race speed and overtaking is not impossible here. And racing in front of my home crowd for sure will give me a little bit of extra motivation.”
Porsche Junior Buus had a similar attitude: “I really think I could have been a little bit faster today, but it was not easy to get everything together, the tyres, the track conditions, the traffic”, said the young Dane. “Still there is no reason to be really disappointed, as I think I can still do quite a lot in the race.”
Australian rookie Harri Jones will start his third Supercup race from P13 on the grid.
BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal and CEO Robert Lechner sees the result as a good basis for tomorrows´s race: “We can be rather content with the second row, even if we always want to fight for pole. But the circumstances were not easy today just after the F1 qualifying – you could see some surprises there as well. It was rather difficult to always read the track correctly with the ever changing conditions and the gaps were very close today. But we have proven already that we have a very good pace in the race, so a lot of championship points are still possible.”
