Great team result for BWT Lechner Racing – home podium for Harry King in P3
Sunshine, a full house with 140 000 spectators in the grandstands and a great race for BWT Lechner Racing with Harry King scoring a podium at his home event and all three cars in the Top Five: The third round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2022 at the famous and historic Silverstone provided a fantastic event and a lot of smiling faces within the Lechner team, which also extended its lead in the team championship. Local hero Harry King used his third position on the grid for a great start and was even fighting for P1 for some corners during the first lap. He finally had to settle for P3 behind Laurin Heinrich and Larry ten Voorde, but was nevertheless very happy to have claimed a podium in front of his home crowd: “It´s a great feeling, very emotional. My whole family is here to celebrate with me. A big ‘Thank You’ to BWT Lechner Racing for all their support, it´s a very important factor for our common success.”
Dylan Pereira, starting from P5, was able to put a lot of pressure on his teammate King during most of the race. “I had a good speed, but it was still not enough to really try to overtake without taking too much of a risk”, said the 25-year-old from Luxembourg. “Looking at the championship you cannot risk a DNF at all costs – it is very close with now four drivers within 20 points at the top.”
Danish youngster Bastian Buus was the man of the race, overtaking three cars – the last one, his rookie opponent Lorcan Hanafin with an impressive manoeuvre on the last lap, securing P5 and another win in the rookie category. “I really enjoyed the race and also the fact that I was able to extend my lead in the championship”, the 19-year-old was happy.
“It was a fantastic result for the team”, BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal and CEO Robert Lechner stated. “All our drivers delivered a strong performance. Harry was able to withstand all the special pressure of a home race and I congratulate him to a well-deserved podium. Dylan again showed the speed we are used to from him, and Bastian drove a great race, demonstrating his special overtaking abilities. We all had a briefing before the race where it was made clear that there would be no team orders. This is basically just not in the DNA of our team, especially that early in the season, and also the right way to do things if you have three very talented guys under contract. All our drivers are allowed to race each other – with one clear limit: One pink car to touch another pink car is an absolute no-go.” Michael Schöch, Team Manager of BWT Lechner Racing, is already looking forward to the next weekend: “To leave here with three undamaged cars is a benefit looking at the tight schedule we face in July. After the race for us is before the next race. From Silverstone we are heading to our real home event at the Austrian Red Bull Ring next week, where we will go into ‘full attack mode’ – for BWT Lechner Racing this is one of the highlights of the season!”
