Spa-Francorchamps – a magic word for all race fans! The 7.004 km long up- and downhill track in the Belgian Ardennes with its ever so famous corners like Eau Rouge, Raidillon and Blanchimont is always an absolute highlight of the season. Last year it hosted the historic 300th race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup – with BWT Lechner Racing scoring a 1-2 victory, when Dylan Pereira won ahead of Ayhancan Güven in the pouring rain, which prevented F1 from having a proper race, but enabled the Porsche field to provide a great show for the public. Now the Austrian squad is coming to the sixth race of the Supercup season 2022 very well prepared, having made best use of the break since the last race in Le Castellet in July.
Championship leader Dylan Pereira can count on a real streak of success in the past few weeks, coming to his “home race” with three wins in a row in the last three races in the German Porsche Carrera Cup. “Spa is very close to my home country Luxembourg, so there are always a lot of my family, friends and fans coming to the race. I also love the track a lot, I won my first Supercup race with full points here in 2019, and then again last year.”
19-year-old Bastian Buus, current leader of the rookie classification with an impressive advantage of 42 points, crowned himself youngest Supercup race winner ever in France. The Dane is also still in the fight for the overall title, as well as Harry King. The British Porsche Carrera champion already contributed a lot to the great team result of BWT Lechner Racing, at the moment ahead in the team championship by 70 points, with three podium finishes in P2 and P3 and is of course also waiting for his first Supercup win in pink together with the team.
BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal and CEO Robert Lechner has great memories about Spa, “especially after the 1-2 victory last year. But we can´t rest on our laurels. Spa-Francorchamps is the start of a challenging triple header including Zandvoort and the final in Monza – the three absolutely decisive races for the championship. Leading all the three categories where we take part in, drivers, rookie, and team, we enter these final weekends in great spirits and highly motivated. The atmosphere within the team is fantastic, there is impressive teamwork going on, also between the drivers, something I am really proud of already during the whole season. The championship is extremely close this year, we are facing very strong competition. So we will have to give it all not only at the coming weekend, but even up to the last exit out of Parabolica in Monza. But we are very well prepared and looking forward to the challenge!”
