BWT Lechner Racing collected more silverware at the sixth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Spa-Francorchamps: Harry King finished in P3 and Robert de Haan won the rookie classification with P7 overall, making it to another successful weekend for the team before the summer break.
After two days with changeable and rainy weather, the sun finally came out at the classic track in the Belgian Ardennes. Nevertheless the race still provided quite a few incidents, so the Safety Car had to come out twice. King started from P4 and already in the first lap made up one place, setting course on a podium finish. He maintained his position through the two re-starts and against strong attacks by the opposition and with P3 closed the gap to the championship leader to seven points.
Robert de Haan had gone into the race from P10 on the grid and managed to stay clear of some typical midfield trouble which caused a few spins and offs. The 18-year-old finally finished in P7 and on top of the rookie classification, keeping up his championship hopes in this category.
Theo Oeverhaus was on the way up from P16 at the start and already had made it to P12, when a slight contact with an other car dropped him back to P18 in the end.
BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal Robert Lechner: “Congratulations to Harry, who drove another very strong race, with a lot of cleverness but also the necessary toughness in a decisive moment. I shortly held my breath when the two cars went down to Eau Rouge side by side, but I also knew that Harry would not give in. A very well deserved podium after a strong fight – for sure this manoeuvre was the highlight of the race for all the spectators. I am also happy for Robert for his rookie win and am sure he will be very strong at his home track in Zandvoort. Unfortunately Theo was involved in a collision in La Source on his way to the front.”
BWT Lechner Racing Team Manager Michael Schöch: “After a busy July with four races the whole team, all engineers and mechanics, now has the chance to relax a little bit and re-load the batteries. For sure we then will prepare for the final of the season in Zandvoort and Monza. We are looking forward to it and will be fully motivated.”
Harry King: “Coming up on the podium from P4 is a very good result. It was a great race, I had to survive an overtaking attack in the last lap, but I did and scored valuable points, made another dent in the championship lead – exactly what we needed.”
Robert de Haan: “It was quite a good weekend, especially winning the rookie classification is very valuable. I want to thank the team for the great support, which was very important for me. Now I am already looking forward to my home race at Zandvoort after the summer break.”
Theo Oeverhaus: “Not my best weekend – but I will fight back in the last two races of the season.”
