Podium finish for Robert de Haan at Spa-Francorchamps

On a wet track at Spa-Francorchamps, Robert de Haan claimed another podium finish for BWT Lechner Racing in Round 5 of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2025, securing very important points for the championship. The Dutchman saw the chequered flag in P3, while his French teammate Marvin Klein finished in P7.

Due to the heavy rain in the morning and a still wet track, the Race Director decided for a rolling start after two laps behind the Safety-Car, as the Supercup had not driven one single lap in the wet before during this weekend. So the procedure gave all drivers the chance to familiarize with the new conditions, an important measure to guarantee the safety of everybody.

De Haan, who had started from P3 after missing out on pole position in Saturday's qualifying only by eight hundredths of a second, was involved in close fights over most of the distance, first putting a lot of pressure on the car in front of him for P2, then later in the race having to defend his third position. With two laps to go, he was pushed off track shortly by a competitor behind him, but fortunately could continue without damage to his car or losing a position, finishing on the podium for the fourth time in a row.

Marvin Klein had to start from P7 after having three of his fastest laptimes deleted due to track limits in qualifying. Under the conditions with the racing line drying up slightly during the race, but the rest of the track still rather wet, it was very difficult to overtake, even being faster than the car in front of him, so he finally had to settle for P7 at the finish line.

Round 6 of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2025 will be held already next weekend at the Hungaroring near Budapest.

Robert Lechner, BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal: “Sometimes you maximize, sometimes you optimize! Today P3 for Robert was the maximum, the best possible result we could achieve. We have won here at Spa before, but we had also quite a few very important podium finishes for the championship – and today was one of those.”

Robert de Haan: “It was still a good day, we brought the podium home and scored valuable points for the championship. Thank you to the whole team which did a great job from free practice onwards and gave me an extremely fast car for qualifying. Today with the different conditions we tried something with the set-up, which would have worked better with a bit more rain.”

Marvin Klein: “The conditions were really tricky today, so it was very difficult to overtake. The racing line was dry, but the rest was wet, especially in sector 2. We were faster than the cars in front of us, but overtaking would have been just too risky. The real speed we had is what I will keep in mind, and now we will already focus on Hungary!”

Michael Schöch, BWT Lechner Racing Team Manager: “Back-to-back races with quite a distance between the two venues like Spa and Budapest are always a logistical challenge. Fortunately the next typical Spa heavy rain-shower waited until our race was finished. Even with the very difficult weather conditions, we had no damage to the cars. This is very important as already next weekend we will be at Hungaroring, which for us besides Austria is always some kind of a second home race. We are already very much looking forward to it!”
