Emotions rising high at home race for BWT Lechner Racing at the Red Bull Ring
One highlight after the other for BWT Lechner Racing in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2022: Just one week after Silverstone, the home race of Harry King, now it will be the home race for the whole team at the Red Bull Ring near Spielberg/Austria. At the 4.326 km track situated in the Styrian mountains, the Austrian squad will be especially motivated in front of its home crowd to further extend its lead of 28 points in the team championship as well as the lead of Danish youngster Bastian Buus in the rookie classification. Dylan Pereira, winner in Imola and Harry King, third in Silverstone last week, as currently third and fourth in the overall standings aim for closing the gap to leader Larry ten Voorde to further raise their title hopes in this close championship with three different winners in three races so far.
Dylan Pereira is especially looking forward to the weekend – the 25-year-old from Luxembourg can be named the “King of the Red Bull Ring“. Four wins in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, one in the Porsche Supercup, in 2021 a pole position and a second place in this series are the impressive numbers he can count on at this circuit. „I really like the place and naturally it is a very special feeling to drive there with BWT Lechner Racing, as it is the home race of the team“, says Pereira. „Of course I hope I can continue my streak of success in Spielberg – it would be also very important regarding the fight for the championship where at the moment four drivers are lying within 20 points.”
For BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal and CEO Robert Lechner, the race at the Red Bull Ring is a very special event: “When I grew up in Salzburg, I always spent a lot of time during the holidays here in Styria, I saw a lot of the history of this track and I still drove at the old Österreichring in my junior formula times. And in 1997, when Formula 1 came back here to the A1-Ring for the first time after quite a long break, I was a guest starter in a VIP car in the Porsche Supercup as a teammate of actor Tobias Moretti and only slightly missed the podium – just 25 years ago. My brother Walter, who will join me again this weekend in the paddock, scored his first Supercup podium here in 2003. And in 2014, when we came back again for the opening of the new Red Bull Ring, Lechner Racing immediately won again with Jakub Giermaziak. So we all have very good memories of the Red Bull Ring, it's an emotional place for us – and we like to share these positive feelings with all our friends and partners who will be at the track this weekend to support us. Of course we will go into 'full attack” mode and hopefully there will be a new reason to celebrate on Sunday.”
