Very special home race weekend for BWT Lechner Racing at the Red Bull Ring
Big weekend coming up for BWT Lechner Racing in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2023: After winning the season opener in Monaco one month ago with Harry King, now the home race for the whole team at the Red Bull Ring near Spielberg/Austria will be on. At the 4.326 km track situated in the Styrian mountains, the Austrian squad will be especially motivated in front of its home crowd to be as successful as possible again and extend their championship leads both in the drivers an team standings.
“We were very competitive here last year, also had two test days at the beginning of the week at the Hungaroring to be perfectly prepared”, BWT Lechner Racing drivers Harry King and Bastian Buus agree. “So hopefully we can have a very good weekend again. We know that the whole team is working very, very had to provide us with great cars that give us the chance to fight for podiums and wins.” For Australian newcomer Harri Jones it will be his first race at the Red Bull Ring, “but I am already very much looking forward to it. For sure it will be very special to race so close to the home base of BWT Lechner Racing. I have already learned so much from the team and I hope I can give back a little bit with a good result.”
For BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal and CEO Robert Lechner, the race at the Red Bull Ring is a very special event, even if the number of points available is not different to any other races: “This track means a lot to me – from my childhood days onwards, I spent a lot of time here, saw a lot of motorsport history in the making, had great experiences on and off track with my family. There are very special memories like from exactly 20 years ago when my brother Walter scored his first Supercup podium here in 2003 – now this weekend we will be at the pitwall together. And in 2014, when Formula 1 and the Supercup came back again for the opening of the new Red Bull Ring, Lechner Racing immediately won again with Jakub Giermaziak. And we all remember last year when Dylan Pereira won and Bastian Buus celebrated his first Supercup podium. So we all have very good memories of the Red Bull Ring, it's an emotional place for us. We know that these emotions are shared by all our friends and partners who will be at the track this weekend to support us”, Lechner states. “We are very thankful for that, but at the same time we we completely have to focus on our tasks to be able to celebrate again on Sunday.”
