Impressive double victory for BWT Lechner Racing at Austrian home race
What a great weekend for BWT Lechner Racing at their home race in Spielberg/Austria: Marvin Klein won Round 4 of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2025 at the Red Bull Ring ahead of Robert de Haan. In the soaring heat of nearly 30 degrees air and 50 degrees track temperatures, the Frenchman crossed the finish line one second ahead of his teammate, with the rest of the competition another five seconds behind. At half-time of the season, de Haan is now leading the drivers' championship for the first time this year, as well as BWT Lechner Racing in the team championship.
The two BWT Lechner Racing drivers had already secured the front row of the grid in a very tight qualifying on Saturday, with Robert de Haan claiming pole position 43 thousandths of a second ahead of Marvin Klein, proving that the hard work of testing and preparation over the last weeks had paid off.
At the start, they both had a good getaway, with de Haan taking the lead at the very beginning. But soon Klein successfully managed to pass his teammate – with both drivers showing a lot of maturity and respect for each other on track. From then on he kept the lead until the chequered flag, celebrating his first victory for the team.
After shortly being challenged from behind for P2, de Haan from lap three onwards managed to pull away from his competitors, established his second position and brought it home safely, collecting enough points to take over the championship lead.
Robert Lechner, BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal: “Of course this is a fantastic and ever so important result for BWT Lechner Racing in front of so many fans, friends, guests, partners and sponsors at our home race. Congrats to the whole team and our drivers for a job perfectly executed from the first minute of free practice to the chequered flag. I am very happy that Marvin won his first race for us and also that Robert is now leading the drivers championship as well as BWT Lechner Racing in the team classification. After a very difficult start into the season in the first two races, we were able to show our strength and had a great turn-around. From being the hunter we are back to being the hunted. Now we are fully motivated to do everything to defend or even extend this lead in the second half of the season.”
Robert de Haan: “What a great success for the team at our home race, and it was also great for me to step on the podium in front of so many Dutch fans. Leading the championship is where I want to be, and I hope we can stay there for the rest of the season.”
Marvin Klein: “Finally! The first win of the season for me and most importantly, we won at the home race of BWT Lechner Racing. After a tough start of the season, that's what we needed: the team gave us a mega car as always. So I am super happy we were able to put both cars on the podium, the whole team deserved it!”
Michael Schöch, BWT Lechner Racing Team Manager: “After this great weekend in front of our home crowd we now have a little break before the second half of the season will start on the last weekend of July in Spa-Francorchamps. We will use the time to work hard on further improving our performance for the four remaining races of 2025.”
